Digitisation of Events

The 21st century has seen major digital advancements from smart phones to audio activated devices. We've got the Alexa, the Siri and even robots entering our everyday life. I wanted to explore those advancements through the events industry and how we can use that to our benefit. Just how much have the originally physical events been digitised?

Digitisation has touched the events industry from the way we find out about events to how we share our experiences of them. Event planners are now able to do almost all the planning digitally before even entering the real world. Here's how technology is aiding in memorable and meaningful events.

Increasing Engagement

The benefit of using technology for events is that it simply increases engagement, especially when targeting the digital native Millennials and Generation Z. The purpose of events is to capture a specific audience's attention whether that's to sell something, create a community or deliver something. Businesses such as Eventbrite and Facebook enable you to sell tickets online and promote your event. You've also got the option to live stream events through Facebook, Instagram or other social media platforms pushing that connection to the digital realm. It's allowing people to engage with events on a digital level whether that's through being at the event or sitting comfortably at home.

Forming Tribes

This is my favourite part of attending events. You're able to meet people face to face but also continue that connection through the online world. I've met so many wonderful ladies through networking events and we still keep in touch through social media. We try and support each other as much as we can which can just be commenting and liking each other's posts. We're taking these communities from the offline to the online.

Self Appreciation Timeout

In the digitisation fashion, I've teamed up with Paperless Post to try out their service of digital invitations. Paperless Post do a variety of different cards and flyers for different occasions which all have beautiful designs. I'm organising a digital event, open to everyone for everyone. Here's a flyer that I made for a 'Self Appreciation Timeout' through the website which enabled me to edit all the features from colour, font and interactive features like this confetti I used.

In this day and age, mental health is a major issue that thousands of people face including me, especially in the past couple of months. I think us millennials and generation Z tend to face a lot of issues which may affect our mental health in a negative way, whether that's work, making friends or any other changes in our lives. I know that I haven't dealt that well with changes but I wanted to take this opportunity and celebrate the accomplishments that I have made. We should be able to look at our accomplishments and say 'actually I'm quite proud of that'. So let's all just take a time out for ourselves.

Disclaimer: Paperless Post did invite me to try this service out but my experience of the service is in my own words and opinions. I've thoroughly enjoyed using the service and would recommend it to anyone, especially in that it tackles environmental issues including reducing paper waste which I'm very passionate about.
