5 Small Businesses To Support This Christmas

This year, Christmas is a little different with many businesses not being able to open their shop doors. With everything that's happening right now, I wanted to share some love for a few of my favourite small businesses that you can support during this lockdown.

This post is inspired by the lovely Carmela at @belvederemarketing who has just released a Shop Small Gift Guide, featuring lots of amazing small businesses across the UK. You can download the guide here.

Here are 5 of my favourite small businesses to support this Christmas:

The Watered Garden

Based in Sneinton Market in Nottingham, The Watered Garden is a go-to for plant lovers. The shop is filled with plants from floor to ceiling, but you can also buy the plants online which is perfect during a lockdown. There's always that one person during Christmas that you have no idea what to get for, a lovely houseplant is a great go-to. The Christmas season is filled with single-use gifts, which end up leaving behind lots of waste. Plants are a great way to still give gifts but do it in a sustainable way.

The Bunbury Shop

Making incredibly scented candles, The Bunbury Shop is a Nottingham based small business specialising in making 100% natural soy wax candles.

My personal favourite is their collaboration with Studio Chocolate. The milk chocolate one is to die for! Their Christmas collection is also out now too, perfect to get you in the Christmas spirit. Candles are also just a nice thing to gift, especially if you don't know what to get for someone.

Koti Boxes

This Nottingham based sustainable self care bizz is one of my fave ways to treat myself. Koti Boxes handpick plastic alternatives and package them in lovely boxes. They have a Kitchen Box, Bathroom Box, and my favourite, the Self Care Box. It's a great concept for someone that wants to be more sustainable but doesn't know where to start. You can also buy individual items on the website or create your own box.

Handmade Nottingham

The go-to shop for everything independent. Handmade Nottingham stocks handmade gifts including clothing, stationery, artwork etc. 'created with love by the hands of our designer-makers'. Although their shop is closed during this lockdown, you can still order through their website or click and collect.

Five Leaves Bookshop

If you're a book lover, check out the Nottingham city-center based Five Leaves Bookshop. Buying books has become such a quick and easy process with Amazon, but it's great to support local businesses, especially during this time. Five Leaves also has a strong emphasis on independent publishing, with the best-selling sections including politics, landscape/cityscape, poetry and general fiction.
